Membership dues are $19.00 per member ($9.00 state, $9.00 national, and $1.00 accident insurance).
All affiliations must be received by December 1 to qualify for the $19.00 rate. After December 1, membership fees are $29.00 per student. If a student is participating in Power of One, STAR Events, or attending the State or National Leadership Conference, their membership fees must be received by March 1.
New students are eligible for the $19.00 rate if they are affiliated by February 1. Because National FCCLA processes our memberships, chapters pay the $29.00 rate, and Michigan FCCLA reimburses the chapter.
Michigan FCCLA hosts a Fall Leadership Conference, and the State Leadership Conference in the spring. Check the Calendar of Events for dates and deadlines.
As a new chapter, it’s important to keep in mind that Michigan FCCLA offers a wide variety of programs and activities. No chapter participates in all of them. Experienced advisers recommend starting small: attend the Fall Leadership Conference to kick off the year with a few students, choose one or two programs/projects that fit well within your curriculum, and bring a few of your most dedicated students to the State Leadership Conference. You can have them present their projects in a competitive event, or participate in the Community Service Challenge or Healthy Lifestyle Challenge event that requires no prior preparation.
The Handbook to Ultimate Leadership is an excellent resource to help new chapters get off the ground and running. This can be purchased from FCCLA.
Michigan FCCLA also offers a New Adviser In-service in the fall. Registration information is available here.
